Active mining ceased at the Con Mine in September of 2003. Miramar Con Mine Limited, a subsidiary of Miramar Mining Corporation is now actively reclaiming the minesite in accordance with the Closure and Reclamation Plan that was approved by the Mackenzie Valley and Water Board in April of 2007. Reclamation activity currently underway includes final stabilization of all remaining arsenic bearing sludges and calcines, capping of mine openings, demolition of buildings no longer in service, draining of the tailings containment areas in preparation for capping, ongoing water treatment of all contaminated site drainage and ongoing environmental monitoring and maintenance of the remaining facilities. Additional information and regular updates on the status of ongoing reclamation activities can be found on the Con Mine Reclamation website: www.conmine.ca
